Inclusive and Collaborative Climate Action Under Next-Generation Leadership: NPS Contribution to Long-Term Development Strategy

There is no viable pathway to achieving the long-term goal of sustainable, low-emission, and climate-resilient development without engaging in cross-stakeholder and cross-layer collaboration on climate action, from both state and non-state actors.

This is also in line with the spirit of the Paris Agreement, which aims to ensure a transparent, equitable, and collaborative climate change framework. Changes towards better and more sustainable practices must be guided by cross-sectoral, interconnected, and holistic national policies that consistently accommodate global and sub-national perspectives. Non-Party Stakeholders (including but not limited to: local governments, civil society organizations, indigenous and local communities, the private sector, and academia) are partners of the Parties in achieving these commitments.

In August 2021, Working Group I of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) concluded that it is highly likely that the world will experience warming of more than 1.5°C by 2030, and could reach 4.4°C by the end of the century without aggressive and comprehensive climate action starting now.

Devastating impacts such as irreversible damage, increased disasters, and declining economic growth are the future that future generations are expected to face. Indonesia has submitted two important documents, the Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the Long-Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Development 2050 (LTS-LCCR 2050), which outline the country's plans for sectoral emission reductions and actions to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner.

These two documents will serve as guidelines for implementing low-emission development in Indonesia. All stakeholders, both state and non-state, need to collaborate and take concrete action to make Indonesia a leader in the transition to a sustainable, resilient, equitable, and low-emission future.
