What the Vision and Mission of the Future Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates Say About the Environment and the Climate Crisis

The visions and missions of Indonesia's presidential and vice-presidential candidates demonstrate that environmental issues and the climate crisis have become part of the national development agenda. Each candidate pair has highlighted various commitments, such as developing renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting forests, managing natural resources sustainably, and increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change. However, the level of focus and detail of the strategies offered vary, particularly in addressing challenges such as deforestation, environmental degradation, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Effectively addressing the climate crisis requires policies that focus not only on economic growth but also ensure environmental protection, the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, and transparent and accountable natural resource governance. Political commitment needs to be realized through clear targets, consistent implementation, and public involvement in decision-making processes. With an inclusive and sustainable approach, Indonesia can strengthen climate resilience while preserving the environment for future generations.
