Policy Direction for Achieving FOLU Net Sink 2030 within the Result-Based Payment Framework

Achieving Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 target is a central component of the country's strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the forestry and land-use sector. The initiative emphasizes forest protection, ecosystem restoration, sustainable forest management, and the prevention of deforestation and land degradation to ensure that the forestry sector absorbs more carbon emissions than it generates. The article highlights that the successful implementation of this target depends on transparent governance, strong interagency coordination, and the active participation of communities and other stakeholders in natural resource management.

The Result-Based Payment (RBP) framework is presented as a key financing mechanism to support the achievement of the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target by providing incentives based on verified emissions reductions. To ensure its effectiveness, the article stresses the need for robust monitoring and reporting systems, equitable benefit-sharing, and the protection of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities who play a vital role in forest conservation. By implementing an inclusive and accountable policy framework, Indonesia can strengthen its climate commitments while conserving forest ecosystems and improving community livelihoods.
