Biofuel (BBN) in LTS-LCCR

The LTS-LCCR, or Long Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilience, is a long-term strategy for low carbon and climate resilience. The LTS-LCCR document contains a long-term direction or vision that will guide increased climate mitigation ambition in subsequent NDCs through 2050.

The ambitions in the LTS-LCCR are higher compared to the ambitions in the 2030 NDC update. For the energy sector, the development of biofuels for transportation and power generation is the general direction of the LTS-LCCR, in the transportation sector (2050 target) the use of biofuels for transportation reaches 46% and electrical energy for electric vehicles reaches 30%.

Biofuels are projected to play a significant role in greenhouse gas mitigation in the power generation sector. The most ambitious scenario estimates biofuel-based power generation capacity at 14 GW by 2050.

It should be noted that the LTS-LCCR recognizes that biofuel strategies have negative impacts on food security and land expansion. Therefore, the LTS-LCCR recognizes the need to produce biofuels from sustainable sources.
