Contribution of Social Forestry to the Achievement of NDC Indonesia : Case Study of KPH Bukit Barisan
Social Forestry is a national program that is solutive in answering the inequality and conflict of land tenure, economic equality and improving the welfare of communities living in and around forest areas.
Through this program, the right to manage and access of the community to forests is legally recognized. So that the community also has a contribution and can participate in mitigation and control of climate change, especially in the land use sector, changes in land use and forestry.
Currently at least the government has given forest management rights to the community through a social forestry program covering an area of 4,048 million hectares from the allocation of 12.7 million hectares. However, it has not been significantly assessed its contribution in the decline in GHG emissions.
Seeing this potential, the Sustainable Madani Foundation and the Climate and Society Foundation have completed the study of mapping social forestry contributions to the achievements of NDC Indonesia. This study was conducted in three areas of Social Forestry in the Forest Business Unit (KPH) of Bukit Barisan, West Sumatra Province.
