CSO Input for the Updated NDC Document

Civil society organizations (CSOs) urge increased climate ambition, particularly in the forestry and energy sectors, through stronger policies such as expanding forest moratoriums and peat restoration, as well as reducing coal-fired power plants and scaling up renewable energy.

The Updated NDC should include clear priority actions and specific quantitative targets in forestry (e.g., deforestation reduction and forest rehabilitation) and energy (e.g., review of new coal power plants and stricter emission standards) to provide clear policy direction. CSOs also emphasize the need for an inclusive approach that protects Indigenous peoples’ and local communities’ rights, ensures tenure security, and promotes gender equality within the NDC. Meaningful civil society participation must be strengthened across all stages from planning to monitoring and evaluation.
