For decades, the palm oil industry in Southeast Asia has been closely linked to deforestation, habitat loss, and peatland destruction in some of the planet's most biodiverse regions. Despite recent efforts to reduce the ecological footprint of palm oil production, such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, the Indonesian Palm Oil Pledge, and numerous corporate commitments to halt deforestation, palm oil expansion continues to wreak havoc on the environment.
