Jusuf Kalla's Message at the Climate Action Summit
Hello Luluk's Update friends, do you know what our Vice President Jusuf Kalla said at the Climate Action Summit on September 23?
So, at the prestigious and very important meeting regarding climate change, Jusuf Kalla delivered a short speech at the Climate Action Summit or Climate Action Summit at the General Assembly Hall, UN Building, New York, on September 23, 2019.
Jusuf Kalla stated that forest and land fires (Karhutla) exacerbate the impacts of climate change. Indonesia has taken decisive action to address this issue.
Jusuf Kalla also emphasized that Indonesia is ready to address the challenges of global climate change. " We no longer have the luxury or choice to increase our ambition to control climate change. In facing this reality, climate action must be concrete and realistic, " said Jusuf Kalla.
Indonesia's strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions was also presented at the event. First , Indonesia will launch the Low Carbon Development Initiative (LCDI), an initiative that combines economic and social benefits.
Second , intensify climate action, through Nature-Based Solutions, by restoring 2 million ha of peatlands and rehabilitating 12 million ha of critical lands by 2030 and intensively conserving mangroves and coastal areas.
Third , an energy transition program by eliminating fossil fuel subsidies, establishing a mandatory biodiesel policy, and building green fuel refineries. Fourth , establishing a special environmental financing facility to facilitate climate finance and support other environmental programs.
" We encourage increased funding support and technology transfer as well as affordable and accessible renewable energy ," added Jusuf Kalla.
