Policy Brief - RUU EBT
Indonesia's energy mix policy heavily relies on palm oil-based biodiesel, which is vulnerable due to single-commodity dependence and causes socio-ecological problems. The current Draft Bill on New and Renewable Energy (RUU EBT) does not yet regulate raw material diversification or sustainability aspects.
RUU EBT must strengthen regulations to fulfill social and environmental sustainability principles in Biofuel (BBN) development. This should cover the entire industry, from upstream to downstream, to address existing problems and ensure the optimal benefits of BBN.
RUU EBT should strengthen provisions for BBN development by prioritizing raw material diversification, particularly non-food and waste/residue-based commodities. It should emphasize utilizing second-generation BBN technology, which uses waste as feedstock.
