The Importance of Understanding Climate Change
The transition of the turn of the year from 2019 to 2020 in Indonesia is marked by flood disasters in various areas that are quite heartbreaking. In addition to the government's stuttering in dealing with it, flood disasters are also cited as the real impact of the increasingly worrisome climate crisis.
This is clearly inversely proportional to the results of negotiations from the COP25 climate conference in Madrid in early December 2019 which is considered very disappointing.
In relation to the climate crisis, this week Luluk’s Update discussed the results of the high-level conference which was considered very disappointing. In fact, the conference that was so eagerly awaited, ended without a breakthrough.
The latest declaration is only calling for a new proposal on the promise of carbon emissions reduction in the COP26 next year. The declaration also called for more ambition to close the gap between existing emissions promises and the goals of the 2015 Paris climate agreement.
The final result of the summit simply reads, “declaring an urgent need for the birth of a deal to cut the current carbon emissions in motion with the aim of the Paris Agreement that wants to limit global temperature rise below two degrees Celsius”.
The results are clearly considered many less binding and tend to be floating against a number of the world’s largest carbon emissions-contributing countries to cut pollution levels to inhibit climate change.
No doubt the climate crisis and disappointment from the COP25 is a signal to many that understanding climate change and all its complex events have become an inevitability.
