[Solok, October 27, 2020] The Climate Village Program (ProKlim) in social forestry areas is not only being pushed to strengthen the achievement of Indonesia's Climate Commitment targets but also to improve community welfare at the grassroots level through sustainable forest management. This was conveyed by the Executive Director of the Madani Berkelanjutan Foundation, Muhammad Teguh Surya, in a discussion on " Dissemination of Sustainable Natural Resource Management in Solok Regency ."

Based on a study by the Sustainable Madani Foundation in collaboration with the Climate and Society Foundation, it is known that the social forestry program, a national priority program, is a program whose results can be measured in terms of its contribution to achieving Indonesia's Climate Commitment or Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

" In his calculations, forests managed by communities through the social forestry program could contribute 34.6% to Indonesia's NDC, if there are efforts to accelerate the implementation of social forestry, especially in high-medium risk areas and prevent deforestation in high-risk areas. If we elaborate this program well, one of which is by promoting Proklim, then its contribution will be maximized and its benefits to the economy will be increasingly felt by the community ," said Teguh Surya.

Muhammad Teguh Surya also said that the integration of ProKlim and social forestry is a great opportunity for the community to improve its economy because basically this program can open up funding opportunities from both domestic and international amounts that are quite large. " Recently, international parties believe that the Green Climate Fund (GCF) has shown its appreciation through funding to the Indonesian government, later this fund will be managed by the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) which will then be distributed to the community. Through ProKlim in this social forestry area, the opportunity for the community to obtain these funds is very large ," added Teguh Surya.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Solok Regency Environmental Agency, Bakhrizal Bakti, stated that as a form of commitment to supporting forest protection, Solok Regency has included ProKlim in its Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD). " With this commitment, we hope that other regional government agencies in Solok Regency will also participate in the development of this Climate Village ," Bakhrizal Bakti said.

" Many people think that climate villages are only about forestry activities, but that's not true. Climate Villages are a multifaceted program, including community economic development, " Bakhrizal concluded.

Head of Community Development for Residential Areas, Directorate of Environmental Partnerships, Directorate General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships (PSKL), Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Siti Mariam said that this social forestry program is a government program that aims to empower communities through the surrounding forests.

" Before this social forestry program, many communities living near forests lived in poverty. This is why this program was created to enable communities to access and manage their forests for economic growth and for our collective benefit, namely, to mitigate the impacts of climate change, " said Siti Mariam.

Meanwhile, KKI Warsi Program Manager Rainal Daus stated that the results of the social forestry activities implemented in Nagari Sirukam have been excellent. The local government, particularly the Solok Regency Government, is committed to supporting the social forestry program.

" On December 10, 2019, the Regent of Solok stated that social forestry had had a positive impact on the community. The most significant benefits were economic growth and environmental sustainability, " said Rainal Daus.

Related to ProKlim activities in the Nagari Sirukam social forestry area, several activities have been implemented such as the development of the Micro Space Potential (PRM) database, the Organic Plantation Field School, namely a school in the field or coffee plantation, and Integrated Waste Management with the Nagari-Owned Enterprises (BUMNag), foster tree management, and technology-based forest security called Guardian. These activities can certainly run well with the support of various parties, both from the Nagari Sirukam Government, the Nagari Forest Management Institution (LPHN) Sirukam, KKI Warsi, the Madani Berkelanjutan Foundation, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and the Solok Regency Government.
