Madani News  Indonesia is one of the countries serious about developing biofuels, or BBN, as evidenced by the energy mix policy implemented in 2006. The initial thrust was to achieve energy sovereignty and economic growth, particularly by reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and as a strategy to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions. This was conveyed by Nadia Hadad, Executive Director of the Madani Berkelanjutan Foundation, during a virtual discussion on " Assessing the Actualization of the National Biofuel Policy to Achieve Indonesia's Climate Commitments, " held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Nadia Hadad also stated that the biofuel policy strategy is outlined in Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the strategy for achieving net-zero emissions. However, the challenge facing national biofuel development is that it remains dominated by a single commodity: palm oil.

The Knowledge Management Manager of the Madani Berkelanjutan Foundation, Anggalia Putri or Anggi, who acted as the discussion facilitator, said that in the NDC, biofuels, also often called biofuels, are projected to play a central role in achieving the 2030 NDC targets.

Anggi also stated that there are three goals for a resilient Indonesia: first, economic transformation toward sustainable development; second, achieving energy security and independence; and second, achieving Indonesia's 2030 National Development Planning (NDC) and net-zero emissions. " These goals are inextricably linked to Indonesia's 2030 goals. Indonesia is already highly developed, has climate commitments, and our policies are already embedded with low-carbon policies ," Anggi said.

In this discussion, several speakers were present, such as Dr. Ir. Arifin Rudiyanto, M.Sc from the Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, then the Coordinator of Bioenergy Business Services and Supervision, Directorate of Bioenergy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Agus Saptono, SE, MM, and the Executive Director of the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR).
