Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2018 on the Delay and Evaluation of Palm Oil Plantation Licensing and Increased Productivity of Palm Oil Plantation (Inpres Moratorium Sawit) is a strategic first step to solve cross-sand-shrink licensing of oil palm plantations, including overlapping with forest areas and saving of natural forests remaining in the forest area, if the Instruction recipient officials consistently carry out the Instruction and there is a strong political leadership from the President. Support and escort of the parties is needed considering the entire process of licensing evaluation and various other tasks mandated by the President must be completed within three years.

In a good welcome on this initiative, Madani highlighted a number of things related to the Inpression of Palm Oil Moratoriums, in particular the rights of palm oil farmers, sustainability, implementation flow, exclusion of permit delays, coordination, monitoring, and the role of civil society.
