Forest and land fires are getting worse
The indicative burned area from January to the end of September has reached 800,000 hectares, four times the area burned last year. The largest burned area is in West Kalimantan Province and Marauke Regency (Papua). Among non-overlapping permits/concessions, the largest burned area is in palm oil and oil and gas permits. MADANI calls on the government to expedite participatory permit reviews and implement landscape-based mitigation measures.
