Madani Update Reports Compilation 2016
This compilation of bi-weekly and monthly reports from March to November 2016 tracks key developments in REDD+ implementation, forest governance, and palm oil policy in Indonesia. Major issues included the integration of the former REDD+ Agency into the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, advocacy for stronger peatland protection regulations, debates over the Indonesian Palm Oil Pledge and a proposed palm oil moratorium, progress toward establishing a REDD+ funding mechanism, and a Constitutional Court ruling that strengthened plantation governance.
Civil society advocacy focused on reinforcing peatland regulations, ensuring a comprehensive palm oil moratorium, and accelerating recognition of customary forests. While some advances were made such as the creation of the Peatland Restoration Agency and new social forestry regulations progress was constrained by regulatory delays, limited transparency, and weak enforcement in corporate forest fire cases.
