Message from Civil Society Concerned about the Climate Crisis for Indonesia Toward COP26

Indonesia’s economic development must be green, just, inclusive, and responsive to the climate crisis. The Net Zero Emission target should be achieved earlier than 2060 through a clear and measurable roadmap aligned with the resilient and prosperous vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.

An immediate and comprehensive transition from fossil fuels especially coal toward 100% renewable energy is urgently needed. This transition must be implemented through inclusive, decentralized, measurable, and equitable policies to ensure long-term energy security.

Comprehensive protection of natural ecosystems, including forests and peatlands, must be prioritized to address the climate crisis. Indonesia should halt land-use changes that contradict NZE targets and accelerate the recognition and protection of Indigenous peoples’ and local communities’ rights.
