Ahead of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), Indonesian civil society organizations are calling on the government to take more ambitious and equitable action to address the climate crisis. The call emphasizes the importance of accelerating greenhouse gas emission reductions through forest and ecosystem protection, halting deforestation, transitioning to clean energy, and strengthening policies aligned with the Paris Agreement targets. Furthermore, Indonesia's climate commitments need to be supported by transparent, accountable, and human rights-based governance.

Civil society organizations also emphasize that climate policies must prioritize indigenous peoples, local communities, women, and vulnerable groups as a central part of the solution. Mitigation and adaptation efforts need to be accompanied by protection of land rights, increased access to climate finance, and public involvement in decision-making processes. By prioritizing climate justice and sustainable development, Indonesia is expected to strengthen its contribution to addressing climate change while ensuring its benefits are shared equitably by all levels of society.
