On October 29, 2021, the government enacted Presidential Regulation 98/2021 concerning the Implementation of Carbon Economic Values to Achieve Nationally Determined Contribution Targets and Control Greenhouse Gas Emissions in National Development. This effort deserves recognition as it plays a crucial role in achieving climate commitments and provides the legal framework for achieving emission reduction targets.
" Presidential Regulation 98/2021 emphasizes that the Carbon Economic Value (CEFV) is a step to support community protection from climate disasters. We hope that this CEFV Presidential Regulation will contribute to protecting the environment as a whole, including the climate and forests, while simultaneously improving the overall community economy and having a positive impact on indigenous and local communities, especially those who protect forests ," said Nadia Hadad, Executive Director of the Madani Berkelanjutan Foundation, while delivering remarks at the Talkshow Between Forest Guardian Communities and Carbon Economic Values held on April 6, 2022.

Present as speakers in this talk show were Agus Rusly, S.Pi., M.Si. (Head of the Climate Change Resource Support Sub-Directorate, Directorate General of Climate Change Control, Ministry of Environment and Forestry), Dr. Joko Tri Haryanto (Policy Analyst, Fiscal Policy Agency, Ministry of Finance), Paul Butarbutar (Executive Director of METI/Co-founder of IRID), and Emmy Primadona (Climate Program Coordinator, KKI-Warsi).
" Furthermore, nearly 40,000 villages are located around or on the edge of forest areas (47%), while only 4% are located within forest areas. It must be recognized that they can play a crucial role in maintaining Indonesia's climate commitments. These communities must be actively involved and not merely beneficiaries, but also subjects ," added Nadia Hadad.
Emmy Primadona, Climate Program Coordinator, KKI-Warsi, added that many good examples in the field prove that Social Forestry is proven to be able to reduce carbon emissions by reducing the rate of deforestation. For example, in the Bukit Panjang Rantau Bayur (Bujang Raba) Protected Forest Landscape, in the Bathin III Ulu District, Bungo Regency, Jambi Province. The funding they received from carbon reached IDR 1 billion. Based on the agreement between village leaders and the community, the funds were used to purchase basic necessities and distributed equally to 1,259 heads of families involved in the management of the Bujang Raba Protected Forest. " NEK is an opportunity for the community to obtain financial support to be used to finance forest protection activities as well as social activities such as scholarships, nursing homes, forest patrols, and so on ," said Emmy Primadona.
