We invite you, young Indonesian women (aged 18-35), to dig into stories from your roots, experiences, and communities, and turn them into narratives that can drive positive change. The article "Diskusi: Siapa Diuntungkan di Proyek Raksasa? Proyek Strategis Nasional Perkebunan Tebu dan Bioetanol di Merauke" examines the social, environmental, and economic implications of the National Strategic Project (PSN) for sugarcane plantations and bioethanol development in Merauke. Through a public discussion, experts, researchers, and civil society organizations assessed who stands to benefit from the large-scale project while raising concerns over its potential impacts on Indigenous Peoples, local communities, forests, biodiversity, and customary land rights. The discussion highlights the importance of transparent governance, meaningful public participation, and evidence-based policymaking to ensure that development objectives do not come at the expense of environmental sustainability and social justice. Participants also emphasized the need to balance food and energy security goals with the protection of ecosystems, human rights, and community livelihoods, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas such as Papua. By encouraging critical dialogue and independent assessment, the article calls for greater accountability in the planning and implementation of strategic development projects, ensuring they align with Indonesia's climate commitments, sustainable development objectives, and the long-term well-being of affected communities.

The Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) is a new financial scheme proposed by Brazil at COP28, designed as a long-term fund to incentivize tropical forest countries that successfully conserve and reduce their deforestation. As the TFFF is still developing and its financial and governance structure is still under revision, there remains a critical window for policy intervention and advocacy. Civil society engagement at the national and international level, particularly in key tropical forest countries such as Indonesia, Brazil, and the Congo Basin, is essential to ensure that the TFFF framework incorporates robust safeguards, reflects diverse ecological realities, and upholds the rights and roles of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. It is currently at a critical crossroads in international climate finance. But what does it actually mean for our forests, national policies, and the people on the front lines? In response to this context, Madani Berkelanjutan, in collaboration with Fern and Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN), is organizing a webinar to bring together civil society actors across the global policy spaces to discuss and dissect the TFFF framework to make it more applicable in all tropical forest countries.
